5月5日讯 据《每日电讯报》报道，沙特有着申办世界杯和奥运会的计划，签下梅西是该国在体育层面未来规划的一部分。
日前，作为沙特旅游大使，梅西前往在两天的时间里参加了一系列的营销活动。而且，沙特希望利用天价年薪吸引梅西今夏前往该国踢球。将阿根廷球星带到沙特是一个更宏大、更雄心勃勃计划的一部分，该计划的核心是将世界杯再次带到中东，其成本甚至会超过卡塔尔的1500亿英镑。
据消息人士透露，沙特正优先考虑申办2030年世界杯，而且在私下提出如果希腊和埃及同意联合申办的话，他们愿意为两国新建球场买单。
但是，外界普遍认为，如果西班牙、葡萄牙、乌克兰和摩洛哥联合申办世界杯的话，他们会比沙特更具优势。因此，沙特愿意将申办2034年世界杯作为一个备选方案。另外，不久之前沙特体育部长曾表示该国也有能力承办奥运会。因此，今夏吸引梅西来踢球可能只是他们最新的热身行动。
